by Dame Sophia the Orange, KMOAS
Atlantia’s collection of guilds is exciting, and now we have a new officer in the MOAS department to help! Baroness Olwen has stepped up to assist Atlantia’s people with finding and engaging with her guilds. Lord Alan MacFarlane has been working in this position for a few months and is ready to pass it on to another helper. Thank you for your service, Alan and Olwen!
The current list of guilds can be found at this webpage: https://moas.atlantia.sca.org/resources-for-specific-activities/
Guilds in the SCA have a few aspects all SCAdians should be aware of.
- Guilds are unofficial entities much like households.
- Guilds are self-defined.
- Guilds can request approval of their charter (their defining document) by the Crown or a Coronet if they wish. This approval is only a blessing and does not involve kingdom law or policy.
Guilds are groups of people gathering around any topic. Their self-defined nature can make building and expanding a mysterious task.
The Guild Liaison is a Deputy of the Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences in Atlantia. This person works towards reliable communication between the guilds and the people of Atlantia, and this includes keeping track of a single leader or Point of Contact for each guild. This person can also assist by keeping track of guild activities and reporting them quarterly to the KMOAS. These activities can be included in the quarterly report sent to SCA Inc. describing the overall health of the A&S community in Atlantia.
For any support regarding guilds in Atlantia, please reach out to Baroness Olwen via guilds AT moas.atlantia.sca.org. Thanks to Baroness Olwen for her service!
